Hello everyone!I hope everyone had a great holiday and enjoyed their down time. Now that school is starting back up and we are all entering new classes, experiences and schedules, I'm hoping to incorporate Phem time into your Spring agendas. What are the issues that we would like to focus on this semester? What particular events and goals are you all devoting your energy towards?
For me, I would love to narrow my focus this semester, as I have a tendency to jump all over the map with my ideas and discourse. This is typically a great idea as it allows for a broad scope, however, I desire a deeper inquiry at this point in my life in which to focus on. Media and sexuality have always been a topic of particular passion for me, so you might be seeing a lot of these types of postings from me, with of course the usual interviews and introductions to fellow feminists/artists/activists from your community.
Which leads me to also remind you if you know of anyone who you feel is a good candidate to highlight in Phem this semester, let me know. I would be glad to interview and produce a segment and story towards their cause, voice, organization or vision. Building a feminist coalition [or as Teri calls it 'fem mafia'--perhaps Phem Mafia :-)--] is a great way to ensure support and activity towards issues we would like to focus on, and also a great way of bringing new ideas, opportunities and perspectives to the table.
In total, be prepared for some [hopeful] magazine production in mid March along with interviews, stories, essays, art, book and movie reviews, commentary and group events to help bolster our individual and collective perspectives on creating and maintaining social change.
Thank you to my wonderful contributors for bringing your voices, your art and your visions to Phem. Here's to a new year of modeling social action and coalition building.
In Solidarity,
Brook Buesking
